Benchmade 11H20 Fixed River Knife Review

Sweet a new knife. Being an Army guy I have owned my fair share of knives and Benchmade is my favorite knife manufacturer. They simply make the best knives in the market. The 11H20 Fixed River Knife stays true to that tradition.

The blade is made of N680 steel which has excellent corrosion resistance properties, especially in salt water. The blunt tip is a nice safety and utilitarian feature. I don't know how many knives I have ruined by using them to pry things. That should not be an issue with this one. Pry away.

The thing that put this knife above the rest is the sharp notch on the backside of the blade. It cuts through rigging rope, lashing straps and even clothing safely and with ease while bobbing up and down in the waves. Did I mention that it also serves a bottle opener? Cool. I have not seen any other knife company that has this property.

The handle feels good and rubbery in my hands. It is wrapped in Santoprene which is grippy even when wet. I feel confident that it will not slip while in use. It comes in yellow or black models. I chose the black one since I might end up using this for work. Bright yellow is not very tactical yet practical for civilian use. The tang extends to the butt of the knife and serves a tethering point.

It comes with a molded sheath that clips right on a PFD lash tab. I am not impressed with the locking mechanism on the sheath. It feels week and not very secure. I might have to add a velcro strap or bungee to keep the knife from falling out since I have mine attached blade up. Last thing I need is to have a very sharp knife fall on my lap while kayaking or worst.

Pros:  Safe, Corrosion resistant, Grippy handle, Sharp notch/ bottle opener
Cons:  Pricey, Weak locking mechanism
